From Potatoes
To Malt

Our Family

has operated Rabbit Hill Farms in the great state of New Jersey for five generations now. Our first potato farm was located on Rabbit Hill Road in West Windsor, NJ. When urban development pressed our grandfather Robert Reed south, he named the new location as an homage to our original roots. He continued growing potatoes and proudly partnered with his son-in-law Abe Bakker and son Robert Reed in 1987.

That’s where we come in. We’re Hillary Barile and Blair Bakker. We’re sister and brother, and the founders of Rabbit Hill Malt.

A passionate homebrewer, Blair envisioned an estate brewery that grows all of its own ingredients… so we planted some barley and a few rows of hops to get started. After a few less-than-fruitful years attempting to cultivate hops, we decided to stay focused on grains. The endless flavor possibilities that we could create from our grain harvests led us to a new dream.   It quickly became our priority to be the support that local brewers and distillers were lacking when it came to sourcing locally-grown and high-quality ingredients. We launched our floor malting operation in 2015, and have since developed our product line to include a lovibond of malts that are now used to keep craft beer pint glasses and artisanal spirits snifters full all over New Jersey.

Though it necessitates daily explanation that no, we don’t sell rabbits, we’re incredibly proud of our name Rabbit Hill and the history it represents. Every kernel of Rabbit Hill grain is grown and malted to uphold a generations-old legacy, and is packaged, and delivered by our family for yours. It’s no chore for us to sample the amazing final products that our grains go into. Meet some of them here.
